Does your 2024 marketing calendar look exactly like your 2023 calendar?

 If you’ve ever been to a Royalty Rewards® event, you’ve likely met Timothy Paulson, our Success Facilitator. He recently told me a story about a successful sales letter he used for one of his first businesses – SO successful it produced a $47 to $1 ROI. After using the letter, he didn’t know what to do next. How could he possibly create another campaign that would work as well? So, he consulted with Direct Marketing Genius Dan Kennedy, who he was working with at the time, on what he should try next. Dan’s answer? Don’t change anything. Send the same letter AGAIN. And when you have a winner, there is nothing wrong with repeating it, but you should always be testing new promotions and building your marketing toolbox.

And when it comes to new promotions, trying something BIG, new or unexpected is a great way to get your customers (and your staff) talking! It can build chatter in your community, make your business a destination, and drive new customers into your business (and lost customers that haven’t been in for a while) to see what all the fuss is about.

In the spirit of NOT reinventing the wheel, we recently dug through our archives, looking back at the BEST of the BEST most successful campaigns we’ve used over the years. One of those BEST of the BEST, the Scratch Bounce Back Campaign – a twist on the classic ‘No Peeking’ envelope – we’ll share with you today.

The Goal:

Leverage busy periods and boost sales during slow periods.

How It Works: 

The foundation is a prize giveaway – as simple or as elaborate as you want. Want to keep it simple? Limit the prizes to things you sell in your business (Free Gift Certificates, Double Points, etc.). Want to go all out? Market it as a “$10,000 Giveaway” with a variety of prizes from outside sources as well as smaller prizes from your business (of course all adding up to $10,000 or whatever the actual value is). Whatever route you take, we suggest one big prize and several smaller prizes – and your Coach is ready to help you figure out what will be best for your business.

What’s a BounceBack Campaign?

A BounceBack campaign is designed to… get customers to “bounce-back” into your business. And IMMEDIATELY after they’ve joined your Rewards Program is a perfect time to engage them to return.

What’s Next? 

The giveaway is explained, and each prize is hidden on a 3.5” x 5” Scratch Off Card, like the example here. Cards are handed out to customers during your busy period (so no postage required!) with instructions to return to scratch and reveal their prize. Historically slow in July? Distribute these cards in June, allowing redemptions in July and call it “Christmas in July”! But not all sales benefits are limited to the redemption period. Your Coach can help you create a series of emails to spread the word, create excitement and generate customer visits to get their scratch off card before they’re all gone!

You could even test this as a new customer acquisition tool, handing out a portion at a community fair or event that your target customers might frequent. Or you could use it to build valuable partnerships. Many customers have sourced prizes with a large perceived value (for free or at a significant discount) in exchange for promoting the donating business in the marketing.
