(And The Formula For YOU To Do The Same)
Email Marketing. It’s that’s thing we know we should be doing, but it’s ALSO that thing that seems to be the hardest, or the last, thing to get done.
Email marketing plays a critical role for my business and for many other Royalty Rewards® Platinum Elite Members.
It built my customer’s visit frequency, my sales, and keeps me TOP OF MIND with my customers. It is A VERY EFFECTIVE way to build my business and I KNOW you will benefit from it in the same way. In fact, I’m SO sure of it that I wrote this article with the goal to make creating your next email campaign AS SIMPLE AS POSSIBLE.
I’m even going to go so far as to share details of the MOST successful email I have ever sent. And it’s not something I just sent once. It’s an email that I’ve used 1 to 2 times per month (for over 10 years!), and it generates just over $1500.00 in sales (or at least 50 additional orders) EVERY SINGLE TIME I send it. It’s like clockwork.
But before I reveal that, I want to share 4 critical elements I make sure EVERY email I send includes:
It SOLVES a pressing problem.
It is EASY to understand.
It offers excellent VALUE.
The CALL TO ACTION is clear and easy to follow.
In addition to those 4 critical elements, here are a few other TOP email techniques I have found successful:
Include a link to YouTube or Instagram inside the email. Google WANTS traffic and by including this, Gmail will help these emails get delivered to Gmail accounts.
Include a “calendar” of some highlights of things happening in your business. NOT a day-by-day listing – that is TOO MUCH. Just some highlights of upcoming things.
Use a special “Discount Phrase”. I’ve had great success with this. Rather than offer a blanket discount in an email, I will offer a discount “IF YOU HAVE THE SECRET PHRASE.” This has been a simple way to gauge if my email drives traffic and a great way to increase readership and engagement. If customers know there may be a valuable discount for reading, they will engage more.
Find your voice. Whether you believe it or not, your business has a voice. Find it. Be consistent with it. Are you serious? Playful? Jokester? Whatever it is, use it.
Now, onto my email. In addition to including a sneak peek on the next page, I’m going to break it down piece by piece so you can see exactly how I built it based on my 4 critical elements above. Armed with this insight, you’ll be able to create your own version to use OVER and OVER to build YOUR sales.
What problem does it solve?
It solves the never-ending dinner dilemma that EVERY SINGLE PERSON faces at least 2 times per week, (and maybe even every single night). You see, we all need to eat and figuring this out can sometimes be impossible – especially when other people (family and/or friends) get involved.
In addition to solving that problem, the email is sent at such a specific time and is such an easy solution that it is nearly impossible to ignore when everyone is facing that age-old question, “What am I going to eat tonight?”
It’s so easy to understand!
That’s critical. Simple and straightforward. You see, there’s no need to go into all the related options and details in the email. If they are interested in some modification (they always are) there is NO NEED to explain all the potential options and exclusions – they will ask when they order, and you can handle it then.
“That seems like an excellent value…”
The price point is critical for something to be successful. It needs to feel as if it is of great value and would be competitive with other potential dining options.
How do I do this so cheap? I make sure the special is ONLY offered for takeout. Because of this, my transaction time is quick. I also have designed this offer so that it DOES NOT slow down the kitchen flow and that any add-on sales are quick and easy to execute.
ALSO! I only offer this on nights that are projected to be slower than the average when I have excess capacity with my takeout staff and kitchen staff.
The call to action.
It has an EXTREMELY short expiration. The email is sent about 10:00am and dinnertime is about 6:00pm. Essentially, this is an 8-hour expiration date. This short of an expiration ENSURES decisiveness. This is not a deal they can think about or put off until tomorrow. It’s NOW or NEVER.
I’ve had some families comment that (the families who plan their meals) this offer is annoying because they already have solved their dinner dilemma. To help with this, I have started to include an announcement for these deals in the section of our email called “future fun.” It essentially acts as a sneak peek of the calendar for the month.
There you have it. The essential elements of a 10-year proven email that yields $1500.00 every time I send it. I often get asked, if it is SO successful, why don’t you send it more? The KEY. Scarcity. If they could get this deal every day, there would be ZERO demand. When you find a winner – be careful not to overuse it.
